Wrapping paper is kind of a big deal in my house. I have to have at least one plaid, one red-based print and one green-based print. Bonus points for Christmas wrapping paper that gives me the vintage nostalgia feels.
I know I’m not the only one out there who takes Christmas wrapping paper seriously.
Take a stroll through Target and Walmart each year, and you’ll see that Christmas gift wrap is a big deal. While these two retail giants always offer up great prints, sometimes you want something that’s…not the same as what everyone else has.
So where do you go to find great wrapping paper that isn’t going to look like every other package at the Secret Santa exchange?
You’re in luck! Over the years, I’ve stumbled across some hidden gems for finding unique Christmas gift wrap that stands out from the crowd. Chances are, you’ve got one or two of these stores near you.
1. HomeGoods
HomeGoods scares me a little bit. It’s an overwhelming space. They have everything in there; not always what you need, but they’ve got everything just the same.
This is the place to go for some seriously bougie wrapping paper. They have prints you won’t find anywhere else, and the quality is amazing.
2. Tractor Supply Co
This one took me by surprise. Several years ago, I was in Tractor Supply Co with my sweetie at Christmas time. He needed some piece of hardware, so I wandered around while he got that squared away.
I ended up in their Christmas section. I was shocked at all the gorgeous Christmas wrapping paper. The prints were beyond cute, and you couldn’t beat the prices!
Needless to say, I walked out of there with my arms full.
It’s still the first place I check for wrapping paper each Christmas. Their prints continue to impress, and so do their prices. I’m not the only one obsessed with TSC’s Christmas wrapping paper selection. It’s developed an almost cult following.
3. JOANN Fabric and Crafts
JOANN is another place that has an almost cult following when it comes to their Christmas décor, and their wrapping paper is no exception. They always carry a great selection of beautiful prints at great prices. And the quality is excellent, too.
The problem I find with buying gift wrap at JOANN’s is that it’s impossible for me to walk out of there with just gift wrap. You’ve been warned!
4. Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble is one of those places where you forget they carry Christmas wrapping paper. Then you go in to get a book for someone on your Christmas list, and there it is. They’re hard to top for quality, and the prints are always quite smart and on-trend.
Unfortunately, I have the same problem with B&N that I do with JOANN’s – I buy much more than just wrapping paper. Ah well, I don’t know of anyone whose TBR (to be read) pile is getting any shorter.
5. Your Local Thrift Store
Okay, this last one is hit or miss, but it is always worth a look. (In my opinion.) Most thrift stores will hold donated Christmas items throughout the year and then put everything out during the holiday shopping season. I have yet to find a thrift store that doesn’t have wrapping paper in that mix, too.
Obviously, you’re less likely to get a full roll, and sometimes it’s just donated leftovers from last year. However, I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve found gorgeous prints of unopened wrapping paper.
And if you love the feel of a vintage Christmas, you’ll definitely want to check out local thrift stores. Over the years, I’ve found some amazing rolls of old paper that were forgotten in someone’s closet for decades.
Honorable Mention:
Hobby Lobby
Hobby Lobby always has gorgeous Christmas wrapping paper. It gets an honorable mention for two reasons.
I figure most folks are aware of their excellent wrapping paper already.
I stopped buying their gift wrap a few years ago. The quality is too good. The paper is so thick that unwrapping it can be a struggle. It doesn’t tear like most wrapping paper. My kids had a hard time opening their gifts, which took away from the fun of tearing into presents.
So, if you’re looking for Christmas wrapping paper that’s a little different from what’s on offer at the usual suspects, then it’s time to look in the most unlikely of places.
